About the Owner
All products sold at Mockingbird Manufacturing are handmade by me, John Alexander in my home and shop in a small community outside of Meridian, MS. I have always worked in construction doing contracting, carpentry, and electrical alongside my brother for the business that we share. I found that I enjoy the creative side of building, which is what has led me to focus on cabinetry, furniture, and leather goods, thus creating Mockingbird Manufacturing. My goal is to locally create high quality, durable goods that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Glad you are here.
About the Business
Mockingbird Manufacturing focuses on having the items sold be of the highest quality, made locally, and made with craftmanship. I put time and effort into sourcing the best materials to ensure that the finished product is one that is worth every penny.
Wood
All wood used has been cut, milled, and finished in Mississippi. Cabinetry and built-ins can be custom made to your specific dimensions and needs. The furniture is created using solid wood. In certain pieces, hand tools are also used.
Leather
All leather products are made with full-grain leather. Full-grain leather is the highest quality leather that uses the entire outer hide. This ensures that the leather will not crack and is the most durable. This leather will have a patina as it ages. Top-grain, genuine leather, or bonded leather are not as long lasting as full-grain leather.
All leather products are made from leather that is vegetable tanned, which means that the leather is tanned using an all-natural plant based tannin. The tannins are usually tree bark, which means that the leather is biodegradable. The vegetable tanning process also takes 40- 60 days longer than the more common chromium tanning, which uses chemicals.
The leather hide is sourced from Missouri and Italy. The waxed thread is sourced from Maine. The brass accessories and fabrics are sourced from Japan. Some leather products are hand dyed and/ or hand stitched. It will be mentioned in the item description, if so. Leather details on the gun sling and belts are hand-tooled versus embossed, meaning that the detail pattern is individually created.
